Nightmare Ends: JHGCA Cagers Outlast TFUCS, Secure Semis Berth

As Superman has Kryptonite and Achilles has his heels, JHGCA got TFUCS.

JHGCA, though having many wins, being frightened by other teams, got their knees feeble whenever they will face TFUCS.

Well, no doubt that this team is for real. They got the bodies, the tools and the support they needed. They are, if not one hundred percent, at least almost complete. History tells it. Since the school year Jesus the Heart of God Christian Academy became competitive, its competitiveness spirit always declines as they battle against The First Uniting Christian School, either be volleyball or a basketball match.

November 25, 2015 at GMA Complex, during the Federation of Christian Schools Athletic League 2015, once again, these two teams collided in a must-win ballgame.

The smaller, thinner and weary JHGCA Basketball High School players battled against TFUCS in a game which will give the winner a sure semi-final slot.

The game started at 4:00 p.m. after a rubber match of VCM and VWCS but JHGCA players got their heads low, and their body language was saying “talo naman kami sigurado.”

The first quarter ended, tied at 14 and the players were like, “hindi pa naman yan yung full line-up nila” as their coach, Mr. Kim Labadan, remained calm.

The second quarter had finished having 38 points apiece, which enlightened the face of the JHG community.

“Kaya ‘to guys. Gana lang, depensa, bilisan ang ikot ng bola,”  Coach Labadan shouted.

JHGCA opened the third canto with a 9-0 run led by Jacob Hernandez and Percival Bongosa III.

Exchanged of baskets happened as Kevin Orpano joined the shoot-out after sinking an alley-oop pass from Ryan Lim, 49-44.

But TFUCS took back the lead 55-50 to end the quarter as Darius Go committed his 5th foul that sent TFUCS’ No.4 into the stripes with just a second left.

The final quarter started as the crowd got more engaged. Bongosia drove hard to the basket, drew a foul and sank two free throws, 54-55.

TFUCS was silenced as Bongosia scored again another two, followed by a Hernandez’ trey plus an Orpano’s tear drop shot, 61-55.

The lead ballooned to ten, 69-59 with back to back baskets from Jacob and a lay-up from Orpano.

The lead was cut down into seven with 5 minutes left in the ballgame 69-62, but Ryan Lim kept grabbing rebounds and Darius Go risked his 5 fouls to bang bodies inside.

Exchanged of baskets took place as Kevin Orpano had two consecutive tear drops, a Bongosia’s miracle wrap-around shot and back to back three from Hernandez.

The game ended with a Jacob’s steal plus a basket, 76-68.

The buzzer sounded and the JHGCA community went wild.

“Natapos ang bangungot, naputol and sumpa.”

“Hindi ko din alam bakit naging ganoon yung laro ng players ko. Nag-over confident siguro. Saka ang bibilis ng bata nyo.” TFUCS Coach said as he spoke to Ptr. Teodoro G. Fernando Jr., JHGCA President.

It’s a sweet victory indeed.

As Superman has Kryptonite and Achilles has his heels, JHGCA got TFUCS.

But that’s before.
Now, if Gilas has South Korea, JHGCA has TFUCS.
Got beaten by them a lot of times, but time had come, fate goes on our way.

To God be the Glory!
