The Purefoods Hotshots defeated Global Port Batang Pier, 83-70 during its debut game in Commissioner’s Cup 2015, January 30 at Cuneta Astrodome.

Marqus Blakely, the shortest import in this conference, and is to be replaced by Daniel Orton, led the Hotshots with 26 points, 18 rebounds and 7 blocked shots.

Purefoods still managed to finish a smashing win without the services of their three key players – PJ Simon, Yousef Taha and Ian Sangalang.

Known for their locked-down defense, the Hotshots limited Global Port into just 70 points compared to their previous game wherein they defeated Kia, 100- 89 led by Leslie, who scored 31 points.

Marc Barroca led the locals with 11 points followed by Alex Mallari with 10.

“Feels good to be able to win the first game, it’s been a while,” said Purefoods Star coach Tim Cone, whose team took an early playoff exit in the Philippine Cup.

“Marqus Blakely comes in for us as a warm blanket. We know him so well, and he’s comfortable with all our defensive schemes,” he added.
