Mixers grinds out for a come-from-behind victory over Global Port, 92-82

Though trailing for as much as 20 points in the first half, San Mig Coffee Mixers managed to take a 10 point come-from-behind victory over Global Port Batang Pier yesterday night at Smart Araneta Coliseum lead by Peter Jun Simon with 24 points 1 rebound, 2 assists and 1 steal.

However, special Mention to the following:
Marqus Blakely - He's still showing us the Best Import performance, providing energy and anchoring that defense scpecially Pingris is not 100%. He's the Mr. Everything, giving everything he has to help this team.
Marc Pingris - Though not in perfect shape, he still doesn't want to lose his energy and defense. That's a such motivation to other players to continue to grind out.
James Yap - Finished with just 13 points, but his notable defense was very impressive making life difficult for Terrence Romeo.
Ian Sangalang - 7 pts, 3 rebs, 1 ast and 1 stl in 19 minutes, was again a quality minutes specially when Pingris is at rest, sustaining that energy inside both offense and defense.

Congratulations to our beloved SanMigCoffee team.

Pingris Knows Basketball

Okay, enough of the zebras.

Fundamentals of the Screener (Person setting the screen):

·         Feet should be a little wider than shoulder-width apart. It's very important to have a wide, strong base.
·         Hands should be crossed across your chest (girls) or protecting your groin area (boys)
·         The screener needs to be stationary as the screen is set. Otherwise, the screener will be called for a offensive foul.
·         Body should be vertical (should not be leaning forward or backwards).
·         Square to the defender. The middle of the screener's chest should be in line with the defender's shoulder and hips.
·         After the offensive player has ran off the screen, it is very important to open up to the basketball. Normally, you will pivot 180 degrees to the basketball. Sometimes, a cut to the basket or away from the basket may be open. Many times, the screener is the person who is open.

Rules on an Illegal Screen in Basketball

Making Contact

·         The player who sets the screen must not make illegal contact with the opponent. Primary examples of illegal contact include sticking out an arm, hip or elbow to hit or impede the opponent, or attempting to kick, knee or trip the opponent. If the screener remains stationary and square, and the opponent runs into his chest or torso, the screen is legal.

Moving Screens

·         Once the screener establishes position, he cannot move laterally or toward the opposing player whom he is trying to screen. The officials will call the player for a moving screen and charge him with a foul. The screener is allowed to move in the same direction as the opponent. If the opponent is sliding to his right while guarding the player with the ball, for example, the screener can move along a parallel path and re-establish his screening position.

So what is an illegal screen, anyway?

Common illegal screen movements include the aforementioned throwing out of a knee, hip, elbow, or shoulder to try to clip an opponent going by, or throwing the pelvis, stomach, forearms, or chest forward to make contact a bit more painful when it occurs. Both of these are no-nos, and if contact occurs, it's a foul.
So, Good or Bad Pick? Kayo nalang humusga.
Next issue.
Ayun nga, gumanti si Ping at sumuntok. (Oo, sumuntok talaga siya at nakita ko yun, malakas man o hindi, it’s a punch, closed fist and intentional kaya agree naman akong FF2 yun)
Ni-review ng referees yung scene at tapos yun nga humatol sila ng FF2 on Ping. I expected that kasi nga it’s a punch kahit pa sa baba iyon.
Mali naman talaga yung ginawa niya. That’s uncalled for and shouldn’t be seen by young viewers as what have Sena said too.
At marami pang iba.
Really?
Basketball is a contact sports, matatamaan at matatamaan yan”
I was like what?
Lol)
And you guys also think na tuwing matatamaan si Ping sa parting yun eh mapipikon siya? (As if si Sena pa lang ang nakakatama nun)
Ping had been up against many big men in the league. He even had that one action na hinabol niya yung bola na going out of bounce, then sabay hawak sa rib part.
Lol)
Don’t get me wrong, or even if you get me wrong bahala na kayo. Haha
My point here is, karapat-dapat bang laitin ng ganun yung tao at sabihing wala siyang lugar sa Gilas at irepresent ang bansa?
Kung wala si Ping, we’re uncertain of our FIBA-Asia stint. After that scenario, maraming mas humanga at nagmahal sa kanya at sinundan pa yun ng sunod-sunod na kampeonato. A

He's emotional. Intense, energetic and passionate.
He might hurt others, but he's MAN ENOUGH to accept his mistake.
He’s an ideal player of any coach, and an ideal teammate to any players.
Pingris Knows Basketball so don't tell him to play chess instead.

SMSCM's 3mendous 3Peat

Sabi nila, walang challenge yung pagiging SanMig fan nowadays.
Puro champion daw eh. So, natural lang na maging die-hard ka.
I was like… “What?”

Didn’t you remember that those championships won were all came from an almost drowning elimination round?

“Started from the bottom now we’re here”

Yung tipong “Bakit natalo?” “Kaya naman, bakit hindi pa ni-push?” “Nagmadali pa naman akong umuwi, talo pala.” “Bakit hindi pa nagpapalit ng import?”

BUT, when playoff comes.

Bakit?
7 straight semis appearance ba naman eh.
And those appearances were never easy.
Halos puro do-or-die nga eh, isama mo pa yung quarterfinals.
Pero, this team develops the winning attitude partnered by the culture of hard work.

Can’t they still yet accept that our LOCKED (as in naka-kandado) DOWN DEFENSE rattles the opponent and would rather fell in love to shoot outside, rather than to be blocked (by Barroca. Ouuuuuuch!) and banged by Ping and any import si Bowles man yan, si Blakely and lately nga sin Mr. Everywhere na si James Mays without fouling?

Well, haters will always hate and bitter fans will always find loopholes.

Ahh! Well, just forget about them (hindi nakatutulong sa paglaki. Lol)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This team is built with experience, trust and brotherhood.

Experience --- XP is the best teacher. Agree? Yeah of course. Actually, the team could have swept Alaska and Air21 if they really pushed through. But Coach Tim had other things or should I say, has always bigger things in his mind. He wants these guys to experience everything before going into a biggest battle. Team-do-or-die nga diba? Hehe

Trust --- This team has a coach who would bench his superstars for having a bad – worst game. BUT, this team has also a coach who would still give his superstars a lot of playing time even having a bad-worst game. Gets? If you can’t, don’t try to figure it out, because you will never succeed. Hahahah!  So, will you trust a coach like him?
Mixers will answer YES. They trust their coach, they trust the system. This team has individually talented players who may opt to make their own decisions and show off their skills, but that’s a NO, NO and they respect it.
This team has no consistent prolific scorer but they know who to pass the ball to when game is on the line. James – PJ – Ping and now plus Barroca. Players trust each other as Tim cone does.

Brotherhood --- We’ve been hearing that some teams with multiple stars having issues with each other. Pasikat, papogi, lider-lider-an, feeling coach or whatever.
Meron pa nga, dahil hindi masyadong mag-click eh, na-trade na yung iba at mas naging successful nung nahiwalay sa co-stars nila.
Pero sa team na’to. Hindi uso yun. James, Ping and PJ are together for how many years?.... and still counting. Bida yung isa, Masaya yung dalawa. Bida yung dalawa, Masaya pa rin yung isa. Walang inggitan, walang keme.

Click for more of the Big 3:

We’ve been hearing a lot of bench players asking to be traded to have more playing time.

Meron pa nga, may playing time na kahit papaano, nagrereklamo pa rin kasi feeling nila hindi sila deserving na mas matagal naka-upo.
Pero sa team na’yo. Wala kang maririnig na ganun.
“Di ko naman kailangan yung playing time,”.
“Aanhin mo yung playing time? Di mo naman makakain yun,” he japed.
 – Jerwin Gaco
Speaking of Jerwin Gaco, let’s now talk about this beautiful puzzle’s pieces.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

practice.
Credits to them, for they are all ready to play kahit mahaba o maiiksing minutes man yan.
Sila Ken Bono at Lester Alvarez who are always there supporting the team and been there in practices as well. You guys are all part of this SWEET 3 PEAT.
You are one of the pieces that complete the puzzle.

How about our Daddy Yancy de Ocampo and Daddy Long Legs Rafi Reavis?
But, you still can deliver well when needed. Thanks Rafi for those rebounds, block and extra points. Thanks Yancy for those nice passes and sweet mid-range shots.
Thanks to both of you for giving your opponents, “nice-fouls” hehe

And of course yung mga honorable mentions natin na sila Ian Sangalang, Justin Melton, Alex Mallari, Joe de Vance at Co-MVP na si Mark Barroca, hope you continue what you have started.

Click here for more of the Honorable Mentions-

How about a"Mays"ing James?
He proved his doubters wrong, including ME. Yeah I admit. I was one of those saying, "we can't reach the finals with him." But he really made things happen. He compliments well with the team. He didn't waste Coach Tim's trust in him. He's not the best import but he got the ring! Thanks a lot James Mays. You're such a blessing.
Click for more of James Mays --- > http://rizfernandoallblogs.blogspot.com/2014/05/you-amaysed-me.html

How “sarap” it is to have this kind of team right?
Why wouldn’t be?
It is lead by a group of extraordinary people:

Coach Tim --- fond of collecting trophies. Hehe (Sabi po ni sir Mico haha)

Assistant coaches:
Johnny Abarientos --- Di nakapagtataka, bakit patuloy na nag-bo-blossom sina Barroca, Melton and Mallari. He’s the Flying A the source of Flying B.

Richard del Rosario --- well, according to Marc Pingris, siya ang nagtuturo ng mga post moves. J And ofcourse he has that great sense of humor that light things up.

Olsen Racela --- :(  :’( Ra-ra-Racela. L His experience and fighting spirit are always available para ma-ishare niya sa players natin. Pero… aalis na siya… :(

No doubt, his smarts, experiences and skills were all a great contribution to this sweet three-peat. Sila ni Johnny A yung kabisadong-kabisado ang triangle, kahti nakapikit. Kaya mabilis nakaka-pag adjust ang players natin. Pero… AALIS NA DIN SIYA… :(

To Coach Ols and Coach Jeff, thanks sa lahat-lahat. I don’t wanna be selfish kaya I’m wishing you all the best sa lilipatan niyong team. A lot of pressure to you now for you are about to try to awaken the sleeping NSD of Ginebra and give them the championship they have been long waiting. God bless!

Team Manager --- That hug. That emotional, familiar hug. No other team manager can do that best but you. Alvin Patrimonio. My 1st-ever PBA crush. The very spiritual leader of the team. Your heart and passion for the game are being transpired to the Mixers.

Next mission ------ GRANDSLAM. Hello Mr. Everywhere! Hello Allein Maliksi! #Exciting to!

This is our team.
All Heart. All Hard Work.

You aMAYSed me!

Mr. Everywhere.
aMAYSing James

Thanks for proving your doubters wrong, including ME.
Yeah I admit, there were some moments when the team had its losing streak, I wanna tweet Coach Tim and tell him to replace you.
But Coach Tim showed his trust on you.

It’s just a shame that I thought you won’t get us here.
I thought you won’t get us here in this euphoric 3-peat state.
Yeah, you didn’t win the BIC. That’s understandable basing from the stats sheet.
BUT man, isn’t it sweeter to bring home a championship than that individual award alone?
I know how pressured you was.
You witnessed the team’s hard-fought AFC Championship.
And I’m pretty sure that many had told you, prior to that, the team got its Governor’s Cup title lead by Mr. Everything.
And we, die-hard fans really expected a lot from you, because we do understand Coach Tim’s credibility in getting imports.
And woooosh!
You became Mr. Everywhere!
I remember that Game 3 when you even guarded Jayson Castro at the rainbow country.
That’s literally being everywhere.
You were benched for some times, but you stepped up every next game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You fit well in this team.
You clearly understood your role.
You clearly understood that you are surrounded with good players and all you need to do is to fit-in and deliver what’s needed to.
You are asked to score a lot, you did.
You are asked to just grab those loose ball, pass to open man, you did.
You are asked to wall your opponent, you did.
You’ve been the Mr. Everywhere, and it aMAYsed me.
If fate forbids, I want to still see you next year, defend the crown and have the bonus BIC award.
God bless your journey Big James!

Big-THREE-Peat

BIG 3 PEAT

Booom Paneees! Haha
.
.
.
Okay serious.

Sobrang thankful ako as a fan na may napapanood akong player na kagaya mo.

You're the spiritual leader of this team.

Thanks Kuya Marc. Kahit na astig kang mag-artista, please tagalan mo magretire ah?

Spell Puso? – Jean Marc Pingris

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bakit wala ka pang BPC? MVP? O kahit Finals MVP?
Bakit?
Bakit?

Scoring Apostle – Peter Jun Simon
-----------------------------------------------------------

Hanep! Finals MVP ka na naman.
Deserving ba?
Sabi ng iba, bakit daw ikaw?
Sabi ko naman, bakit hindi?
Game 1, best player.
Game 3, ikaw tumira nung game winner.
Game 4, scoreless nung 1st- 3rd quarter. #AbaMatindi
Ay di pa pala tapos.
Pagdating nung 4th quarter, biglang pinasok?
Saka lang nakapuntos?
#AbaMasMatindi

Your shot was a testament of your monicker.
Ayun, stunned sila.

Kung nung game 1 ay pinakita mo na ikaw pa rin si “The Man With A Million Moves” nung game 3 and 4 naman, eh yung pagiging “Big Game” mo.

Kaya thank you po.

Salamat Big Game.
Salamat Big Game James Yap.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hehe)

Yung samahang walang katulad?
Yung never-say-die?
Actually perfect yun sa inyo eh. hehe
Tinuturing niyo ang isa't-isa bilang
kapatid
kapamilya
kapuso

Kaya, God bless Big 3.
Thanks for the 3 Peat.

Big.3.Peat

To The Honorable Mentions and Co-MVP

To The Honorable Mentions and Co-MVP

#4: Alex Mallari

Fourth Quarter.
Barroca got his 5th foul.
Coach Tim put you in.
I was like “Why him? Not PJ?”
You missed 2 shots and Coach Tim didn’t show any sign of putting you out.
Next possession was on TNT.
Castro tried to drive but in no success.
Who’s defending him? YOU
And that… I’m really, really sorry…
Not to mention your contributions from the elims upto Game 3.
You’re a part of the 2nd unit who gave the starters enough time to rest without putting the team into much trouble, or actually sometimes increasing the lead if not maintained. That’s a BIG input that paid off in this last game of the conference.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Hope you’ll stay humble, shows willingness to do your role and rise to the occasion.

#3: The Speaker: Joe De Vance
The Walking Mismatch

Can play point, can play forward and sometimes can post up and looks like an import. Hehe
He’s been unnoticed for how many times.
But this three-peat will be impossible to bag without him.
Among the mixers, he’s the one who masters the triangle most.
He might commit unforgivable errs. Coach Tim will shout at him and he sometimes (or I don’t know if many times) he answers back. But after those sweet nothings, he’ll deliver big.
He might hesitate to take a three but not on crucial times.
Last Finals Game 4 against TNT, he’s part of that huge run.
A three point shot and a three-point play.
But I barely saw fans appreciate those, for it was overpowered by the beasting of Coffee King and Big Game James.
But what’s more appreciating about this guy? He doesn’t mind it at all for he’s just happy playing his role.
Thanks Joe! J

#2: Justin Quickmelt Melton
Slam Dunk Champion.
Quickmelt.
Justin Melton.
Wow! As in W O W!
I should say, the STEAL of the draft.
Really!
Who could have thought that a 13th over-all pick would earn the Master’s trust that QUICK?
Mr. Quality Minutes or Super Sub 2.0
A Sparkplug. An energy guy who gives all out when put in.
Yes you jump so high but your humbleness makes the fans love you more.
Thanks for everything you’ve done and will continue to do to this team.
Hope you’ll stay here for good.
God bless your big, determined and humble heart.

#1: Ian “Silent Assassin” Sangalang

1st Round 2nd Overall Draft Pick
JUST a 22 year – old playing like a PLUS 10 to his age.
I’ve watched your Baste Days and you’re my 2nd favorite after The Beast.
So, I was really jumping in joy when my beloved team picked you.
I know this is not your favorite team.
But the way you play for the past 2 conferences makes me think and hope that you should be staying here for good.
There’s Marc Pingris who can teach you his moves and could transfer his heart into. #hehe
I saw your eyes last AFC’s championship game. It’s fierce and determined.
Last night that fiery look wasn’t alone for you partnered it with a SHOUT after you made a tough shot with a 3pt play. #Astig. #SuperSaIANmove
You, alongside Melton, gave us hope in the 1st half to continue going.
You could have surrendered earlier and think there will be game 5, but no!
You gave a spark that kept the team’s chances breathing, thus making your chance to win ROY plum alive.

Co-MVP: Marc "Coffee Prince turned into King" Barroca

AFC Final's MVP.
One of the twin terrors together with Melton.
The Coffee Prince turned to be a King.
Why?
How many times you have swatted the ball away from a BIGGER opponent?
1 – Junmar Fajardo
2 – Greg Slaughter
3 – Raymond Almazan
4 – Asi Taulava
Honorable mentions: lol
5- Paul Lee
6 – Cyrus Bagiuo
7 – LA Tenorio
8 – Jimmy Alapag

Not only that.
How about grabbing those rebounds and picking up loose balls underneath or from the post wherein supposedly it’s not your business anymore?
How about those turn-around and a one-hander CLUTCH shots against Castro, against Alapag?

You played like a man possessed on that Finals Game 4 against TNT.
They tried to hold you down for putting you into foul troubles.
BUT
IT
DIDN’T
WORK
Hahaha!
That’s how you play eh.
Not #LarongMayaman not #LarongPapogi
